You could have just asked!

Last Saturday, Kuso and I went to the mall to exchange some stuff for Leila. We headed to the food court to get some lunch. Leila freaked out and decided it was time for her to eat as well. So she did. We had a few more stops to make before we went home, so we decided to change her diaper before we left. After watching her grunt and push, it was clearly time to change her diaper.

OH EMM GEE...SICK! She had blown out of her diaper, up her back. It actually wasn't even close to some of the blow outs she has previously had, but it was all over her shirt and pants. The worst part was that it had filled a nice puddle of poop in her car seat! And of course it had to happen on one of the few times I didn't bring a change of clothes with me.

I took her to the ladies room to clean her up. Kuso kept the other package of wipes and cleaned up the car seat. Because her clothes were soiled, she got to be pushed around the mall in just her diaper. She was in heaven. She is such an exhibitionist.

Since it is winter time and probably not the best idea to take a baby around in a diaper alone, we headed back to JC Penney's to buy her some new clothes. Wouldn't it have just been easier if she would have ASKED for new clothes? It could have saved us a lot of disgusting clean up!

Rollin Over

Leila has started rolling over regularly now. Kuso sent me a picture on his phone that showed that she had rolled from her crawl tunnel to over by the computer desk. It took her 4 rolls. So apparently she knows how to roll from her back to stomach and stomach to back. I've only seen the stomach to back. Then she gets frustrated and after a bit longer, I help her back over. I DID see her go from stomach to back about a month ago, twice, but those were both bloopers I guess.

She is strong enough rolling that she rolled herself right off the couch yesterday. Dr. Brasher had warned us...we knew it could happen...but, it did anyway. The couch has kind of an up-hill slant and so when you lay her down next to the back, that's a long way to roll up-hill. Kuso was getting the bath water ready when he heard a bump, then a scream. He ran to the room and saw her laying face down next to the couch...no longer on the couch. She was crying. He was crying. And she was naked during all of this. His version of the story was kind of sad, but kind of funny. He was a little hesitant to tell me. But after he did, I wasn't too concerned. I had been with her for over an hour and had no idea, so she obviously was fine and lived through it. There were no bumps or bruises or scratches or weird behavior.

And so it begins...the first of many injuries that will make us feel like horrible parents but that we will all live through.

4 months old

Leila turned 4 months on January 14th. She also had her well-child care check-up with Dr. Brasher that same day. Her measurements are as follows:
-Head - 41.1 cm - 56%
- Height - 25 1/4 in - 86%
- Weight - 14 lb 14.5 oz - 79%
Dr. Brasher made a point to say that these percentiles are for Caucasian girls only. They don't take into consideration any other races or mixed babies. This was also her second round of shots. She is a rock star. She cried for about 3 seconds and then was done. She was a little whiny throughout the evening, but nothing unbearable.
At 4 months old, Leila has started making some funny sounds. She does this inhale squeal that gets really loud. She "pants"...sounds like a heavily breathing dog. She sticks her lips way out like kissy lips or sucks in her bottom lip. When she sees mom laughing at her faces, she tries to keep making the face instead of laughing. THAT makes me laugh even more! She is SO close to rolling over. She has made herself mobile by balling up and throwing her feet out...it scoots her across the floor. In this picture she started out laying in the crawl tunnel. By the time I turned around from the computer to check on her, she had scooted this far. THEN, by the time I found my camera to take a picture, she was not happy.
Leila had her first rice cereal that night we went to the doctor. That first time, the cereal was too pasty and she was too tired to try it. The second night, she went to town eating all that was prepared. The third night, she was too tired and wanted to hurry up and eat. She started out eating it, but just wanted to get full fast. The fourth night, she went to town, eating it all again. This time she opened her mouth wide open waiting for a bite. She also slams her hand down every time almost like she is demanding more. SO FUN!

She has started grabbing her feet. Pulling her socks off so she can reach her feet.

She still loves the bath! Check out those arm rolls.

Check out those leg rolls too. Again, with the foot grab.

New Year's Eve

This was our first New Year's with a child. We started the night eating dinner with my parents and older brother. Then we left Leila with the family while we went to the Sauniatu Ward dance. This is the Samoan Ward Kuso used to attend with his sister before we got married. Our good friends, Burton and Leslie Uta'i and their son, Matai, joined us for the evening.

We left the Sauniatu dance at around 11 and went to the Aiono Family Dance. Kuso's cousin Wally put together a dance at his church for the family to get together, have fun, and ring in the new year together. My parents and Troy met us there and brought Leila. Several of Kuso's friends/family had not seen Leila yet, so we were excited to have her come.

Leila is a party animal. She took a little over an hour nap. I took her out of her car seat just after 11. She stayed up dancing and playing with us until after midnight. She definitely does not like to miss out on a fun time. Leila with Auntie Leslie...she is still trying to figure out why she is in her pajamas, but at a party.
She looks a little mischievous.
Kuso and his niece Leone. Kuso used to take care of Leone a lot when she was a baby back in Samoa. He kind of thinks of her more as a daughter at times. Isn't she a doll?

Nimo, Lucy, Pasami, Imasi, La (the babysitter), and Apelu

Awww....
Matai, Burton, Leila, and Leslie. Matai LOVES Leila. He always wants to hug her and asks "What's that?" pointing at her. When she gets sad, he gets sad and tries to think of ways to make her happy. He will be a great older brother. I'm glad Leila has him as a "cousin" to protect her. when the boys come knockin...he will knock em out!
Our first dance as a family.
After ringing in the NEW YEAR, my parents, Troy, Kuso, Leila, and I headed to Dee's for our annual early morning breakfast. We had the same waitress as last year! After eating, we all headed back to my parents to spend the night. This was actually Kuso's idea because he knew he would be getting up early to go play ball. My parents live closer to the chapel he plays at and he also doesn't like to leave me alone....not because I can't handle it, but because he doesn't want me to be bored if he is gone very long.
All in all, it was a fun night. Here's to hoping for a great 2010!
